Part of the Band
On a beautiful day in May 2023, I experienced Theodore National Park in western North Dakota for the first time. One of the park’s most captivating wildlife attractions is its wild horses, though the chances of getting close to them are rare. As I rounded a corner, a band of horses suddenly emerged, moving gracefully toward a nearby watering hole. I happened to be in the perfect place at the perfect time, watching in awe as they passed right by my car. The lead mare exuded a commanding presence as I rolled down my window, while the stallion brought up the rear, guiding his band with authority. The youngest foal cast a wary glance in my direction, while his older sibling drifted alongside mom. Sensing the fleeting nature of the moment, I acted quickly to capture the shot. They were gone as quickly as they appeared, continuing the journey to quench their thirst.
See You on the Other Side
While cruising through the Panama Canal on a foggy December day in 2024, I watched as a massive cargo ship emerged from the canal, making its way toward the Caribbean Sea. It passed beneath the strikingly modern Puente Atlantico bridge, crossing into Limon Bay. The dense fog cast an almost mystical atmosphere, transforming the scene into something reminiscent of a painting. The cargo ship, solitary on its journey, appeared to have come from Hong Kong, bound for the East Coast – its precise destination unknown. The towering bridge framed the vessel perfectly, emphasizing its immense scale. As the ship disappeared into the mist, I couldn’t help but wonder how many times it had circled the globe, carrying goods to distant corners of the world, always moving, always journeying.
